As an authorized SkyTab reseller and installation partner in Utah, we have set up SkyTab systems for hundreds of local businesses — restaurants, bars, cafes, food trucks, and more. We know this system inside and out, which means we can give you an honest assessment of where it excels, where it falls short, and whether it is the right fit for your specific operation.
What Is SkyTab POS?
SkyTab is a cloud-based point-of-sale platform built by Shift4 Payments, one of the largest payment technology companies in the United States. SkyTab was developed specifically for the food and beverage industry and is designed to handle the full complexity of restaurant and bar operations — from tableside ordering and payment to online ordering, loyalty programs, labor management, and multi-location reporting.
SkyTab was formerly known as HarborTouch POS before Shift4 acquired the company and substantially rebuilt the platform. The current SkyTab system is a significant upgrade from the HarborTouch era, with a modern interface, improved hardware, and a much broader feature set.
SkyTab Pricing: What You Actually Pay
SkyTab's pricing model is one of its most compelling advantages. The all-inclusive monthly fee covers hardware (the terminal and any peripherals included in your package), software, installation, training, and ongoing support. There are no separate software licensing fees, no installation charges, and no training fees.
This pricing compares favorably to Toast and Clover, which typically charge higher monthly software fees on top of separate hardware purchases. Contact us for a current pricing comparison tailored to your operation size.
Payment processing fees are separate from the monthly SkyTab fee and are negotiated with your Shift4 reseller (UBC Unlimited, in our case).
Key Features
Tableside ordering and payment is one of SkyTab's standout features. The SkyTab Mobile handheld device allows servers to take orders and process payments at the table, reducing trips to a stationary terminal and significantly speeding up service. For full-service restaurants, this typically increases table turns and reduces ticket times.
Online ordering is built into the SkyTab platform at no additional charge. Your online ordering page is branded to your restaurant and integrates directly with your POS — orders flow directly to the kitchen without manual entry. This is a significant advantage over third-party platforms like DoorDash and Uber Eats, which charge commission fees of 15–30% per order.
Loyalty and gift cards are included in the SkyTab platform. You can create a branded loyalty program that rewards customers for repeat visits and integrates with your online ordering system.
Labor management tools allow you to schedule employees, track hours, and manage tips within the SkyTab platform. The system integrates with major payroll providers to streamline the payroll process.
Cloud-based back office gives you real-time access to sales data, labor costs, inventory, and reporting from any device with a web browser. The "In Charge" mobile app provides a dashboard view of your key metrics on your smartphone.
Multi-location support allows businesses with multiple locations to manage all of them from a single back-office account, with consolidated reporting and the ability to manage menus and pricing across locations simultaneously.
Where SkyTab Falls Short
No POS system is perfect, and SkyTab has some limitations worth knowing. The system is optimized for food and beverage — if you are a retail business, SkyTab is not the right fit. The hardware is proprietary, meaning you cannot use non-SkyTab equipment. And because SkyTab is sold through resellers like UBC Unlimited rather than directly, your experience depends significantly on the quality of your local reseller.
The integration ecosystem, while growing, is not as extensive as Toast's or Clover's. If you rely on a specific third-party software that needs to integrate with your POS, verify compatibility before committing.
Our Honest Recommendation
For Utah restaurants, bars, cafes, and food service operations, SkyTab is our top recommendation — and not just because we sell it. The combination of comprehensive features, competitive pricing, and the local support we provide makes it the best value in the market for most food and beverage operations.
That said, the right POS system depends on your specific operation. Book a consultation with our Utah team — we will assess your needs honestly and recommend the right system, even if that means recommending something other than SkyTab.
